Plant lifecycles
A short classroom introduction into plants including their parts and functions. In the forest, through a variety of activities, children will explore the life cycle of plants including photosynthesis, use keys to identify common tree species and consider the importance of plants in relation to the climate and ecological emergency. Depending on the season, there will be lots of examples of seeds, germination or flowers to investigate.
Learning objectives
- to name and understand the different stages of plant life cycles including germination, pollination, seed formation and dispersal
- to understand that flowering plants reproduce
- consider the importance of trees in relation to the climate and ecological emergency

Y6
Living things and their habitats
- Describe how living things are classified into broad groups according to common observable characteristics and based on similarities and differences, including microorganisms, plants, and animals.
- Give reasons for classifying plants and animals based on specific characteristics.
Evolution and inheritance
- Recognise that living things produce offspring of the same kind, but normally offspring vary and are not identical to their parents.
