Forest School is an inspirational process that offers children, young people and adults regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem, through hands-on learning experiences in a local woodland environment. Forest Schools help children develop holistically, by providing opportunities for child led play, discovery, and supported risk taking through activities like tree climbing, fire lighting and tool use.

There are 6 core principles to the Forest School approach, developed by the Forest School Association:

The six principles of Forest school are that it must be long term, in a natural environment with risky play. The activities are learner centered and aim for whole self holistic development and delivered by a qualified practitioner

For more information on forest school, what your child might get up to and what they will need please see our Parents and Carers Guide. We have also developed a guide for children, introducing them to the site, staff and activities. If you would like access to either please email thehive@walthamforest.gov.uk.

Come join us, bright eyed and bushy tailed for fun and adventure in Epping Forest and on our 7 acre site.

I used to be afraid of the outdoors but now I'm not because it's so beautiful. I want to live here!

No one will protect what they don't care about. And no one will care about what they have never experienced.
