Our Vision Mission and Aims

Inspiring the Climate Leaders of Tomorrow

Mission statement: To engage, educate, and inspire people to tackle the Climate Emergency.

Vision:

  • Our vision for The Hive is as a state of the art environmental and climate education service with a diverse offer of well attended events, activities and projects delivered in partnership with like minded local and national organisations.
  • At The Hive, we are dedicated to fostering a deep understanding of the environment and its intricate connections with the climate. Through immersive experiences, hands-on activities, and expert guidance, we empower individuals of all ages to become informed stewards of the Earth.
  • Our aim is to inspire curiosity, instill awareness, and encourage sustainable actions that positively impact the planet through interactions with the natural world in the natural environment of Epping Forest. By engaging with nature firsthand, participants will gain insights into climate science, ecosystem dynamics, and the pressing challenges we face.
  • Through collaborative learning, we aim to nurture a sense of responsibility, resilience, and a commitment to preserving the delicate balance of our world.
  • Through our programs, workshops, and exploratory adventures, we strive to cultivate a generation of informed citizens who are equipped to make positive choices, champion environmental conservation, and drive meaningful change.
  • The Hive stands as a beacon of knowledge, fostering a harmonious relationship between humanity and the climate for a more sustainable and vibrant future.

Our commitment to the environment:

In April 2019, Waltham Forest Council declared a Climate Emergency, recognising the crucial and ambitious work that needs to be done to tackle this. In addition to Waltham Forest’s commitments, The Hive acknowledges its responsibility for environmental protection, reducing carbon emissions and promoting positive environmental sustainability aspects of teaching and learning.

The Hive provides memorable, first-hand experiences in nature that educate and inspire climate action in everyone; developing respect and understanding of the natural world and empowering staff and visitors to make positive behaviour changes to tackle the climate emergency and protect the natural world.

In the summer of 2019, The Hive reopened following a multi-million-pound refurbishment delivered by the council as part of its commitment to climate action. Sustainable features such as solar panels, retrofitting, ground source heat pumps, and water harvesting, help us to reduce our carbon emissions and thus our impact on the environment. We also work hard to protect, develop & enhance the natural habitats of the Centre’s managed land, to promote biodiversity and climate resilience.

Inspiring people of all ages to be interested in, and care about nature and the environment is a vital step in tackling the climate crisis.
